Quentin Budworth: Award-Winning Lens-Based Artist

I am a versatile and accomplished lens-based artist, writer and professional musician. My work spans photography and filmmaking with a passion for visual storytelling. I bring a unique blend of technical expertise and creative vision to every project. I am a virtuoso hurdy-gurdy player and multi-instrumentalist playing across genres, cultures and ages from medieval Spain to contemporary Scottish folk.

I am dedicated to creating engaging and impactful experiences that resonate with audiences. My mission is to promote participation in and enjoyment of the arts to the widest possible audience.

My Approach

Whether capturing the essence of a community, bringing historical narratives to life, or crafting compelling commercial content, I approach each project with a commitment to quality and innovation. I am a skilled communicator and collaborator, adept at leading teams or working as part of a larger creative ensemble. My background in education and coaching informs my ability to understand client needs and translate them into captivating visual narratives.

Areas of Expertise:

  • Photography: Documentary, portrait, architectural, and fine art photography. I have a keen eye for detail and composition, producing images for major exhibitions, commissions, and editorial purposes. Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and other industry-standard software.
  • Filmmaking: Scripting, directing, camera operation (experience with Sony, JVC, and Panasonic broadcast cameras), lighting, and editing (Sony Vegas and Final Cut). I have created documentaries, promotional videos, educational content, and animated films. My work has been commissioned by organisations such as the UK Film Council, the BBC, and the Arts Council.
  • Digital Art: Experience in creating digital content for web, social media, and interactive platforms. I am well-versed in SEO, digital marketing, and web publishing.
  • Social Media: I am adept at creating written, visual and video content to develop and promote engagement and love of place, people and nature. I have knowledge of and can use social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. I also have experience in campaigning on Green, Environmental and Social issues.

Technical Proficiency:

I work to broadcast and commercial standards across all aspects of my practice. My skills include:

  • Video: Pre-visualisation, scripting, camera operation, lighting, directing, editing, audio editing, field recording, DVD authoring, and web encoding.
  • Photography: Camera operation (Canon 5D and 7D), image editing, shoot directing, exhibition construction, and editorial photography.
  • Audio: Field recording, editing, sweetening, sound design, and musical scoring.
  • Computing: PC and Mac literate, proficient in word processing, web publishing, social media, blogging, podcasting, video and audio editing, and image manipulation.
